Cancer sucks

Breast cancer

Now she lay in a hospital bed, sick with fear of what lay ahead. Late into the night and the next morning she prepared herself for the upcoming mastectomy. She practiced relaxing and managed to be ready and at peace.

She can still picture Dr. Clark standing in the doorway after the biopsy. In a matter of fact manner with a voice full of compassion he reported, “The lab just sent word that the lump is malignant.”

She did not then realize the effect these words would have on her life. All she could respond was “Are you sure?”

”In cases like this the lab always double checks”, replied Dr. Clark.

She underwent a series of operations or reconstructive surgery. It wasn’t easy going through the procedures. It required more surgery and recovery and more surgery again. Everything went well.  Although long and difficult, the results were definitely worth it! Her self-confidence and body image drastically improved.

She has now celebrated more than 40 years of cancer free living. Once again the future looks very bright.
